So you’ve built your first website and you’re extremely proud. You’ve slaved over the graphics, code, and content. So one day you check you stats and see that you are getting barely if any hits. You have this great website, but no one is visiting! That is where search engine optimization comes in. You need to properly seo your site so that you can start seeing visitors and selling ad space.
So how do you go about doing this? Easy, just read below:
You probably have some content written for your site already. Well that’s fine and dandy, but how precise are those keywords? Who are you targeting? And why? Before you create content you should conduct keyword research. Keyword research is the act of finding keywords (what people type into search engines) and building content around it. From their search engines will crawl your content and index and rank you.
So once you have a list of solid keywords you’re going to want to build some content around them. You can do this by researching what others have wrote and compiling the information. Or if you are deeply knowledgeable in your subject. Write it from scratch.
Remember to optimize your article for the search engines. Your keyword should be used in the title and a few times in the article. This will help search engines know that you want to rank for that specific keyword.
Once you have the article publish you need to start getting some back-links. Back-links are the lifeblood of seo. It doesn’t matter if they’re do-follow or no-follow (do-follow is a bit better). All that matters is that you are getting back-links for that specific webpage. The more back-links you have the better. Some easy way to gain back-links are:
- Social bookmarking (there are thousands if not millions online)
- Social Networks (Facebook, Myspace, and Bebo)
- Blog Comments (probably the easiest out of all of them)
Consistency is the key to staying on top of the search engines. Once you start ranking for a specific keyword continue building back-links and try to write more on that subject. A good example is:
Article 1 (the one ranking) – Chickens
Article 2 (not yet created or ranking) – Chicken coops
You would basically write about something relevant and similar to the first article. This will help you create more ranking pages and keep you on top of the search engines.
